Memory Tapes - Grace/Confusion (2012)

Perhaps the best way to get a sense of Memory Tapes' latest and most ambitious album is from the mouth of the man behind the moniker, Dayve Hawk himself. "I've always explained Memory Tapes as pop music as field recordings. I decided to showcase a kind of chaotic reaching. I don't think the record is flat-out shooting in all directions though, because I kept trying to reign it in as much as I embraced it. That's why I call it "Grace/Confusion"." Hawk is right in the sense that he channels this chaos into multifaceted pop music that is a chillwave combo of disco, krautrock, space rock and classic electro. Grace/Confusion defies genre, format or song structure, but the final product is a unique and comprehensive album.
